Do NEW Stuff

It’s so fun to be with children, to see their happiness ignited by everything that’s new. 

New foods, new places, new things, new experiences.

For us adults, it can take a little more work to enjoy NEW stuff.

But continuing to enjoy new experiences in life is vital to our emotional health.[1]

And is a really powerful focus for overcoming depression too.

So just be aware, how many new experiences have you had recently?

New foods?
New places?

New people?

New things?

Anything new?

So today we’re going to explore just how easy it can be to include more NEW experiences into your week.

The Step-by-Step Guide will help you get your creative juices flowing, and help you get out of your box, and maybe even out of a funk or a rut!

STEP-BY-STEP • Journaling for Emotional Health & Happiness

You will need:

  • Your journal or a notebook
  •  A pen
  •  Some time in a comfy, uninterrupted space
  1. First of all we’re just going to brainstorm all the experiences you enjoy in life. So with pen and paper, start writing down your answers to the prompt: What experiences do you easily enjoy in life?
    Examples:
    Eating. Dancing. Traveling. Dining out. Listening to music. Talking. Coffee. Handbags. Parks. Lakes. Sports. Cooking.
    You can include specific things like Baklava.
    And general things like Eating.
  2. Great job. Now for each one of the experiences you wrote down – think of 3 NEW ways you could enjoy that experience.
    Examples:
    Eating: Check out the new restaurant in town. Google new recipes. Order something new to me the next time I’m eating out.
    Dancing: Take the speakers into the backyard and dance outside instead of in the kitchen! Go to a dance class. Watch a documentary about a dancer.
    Traveling: Google parts of my city I’ve never been to! Imagine I’m a tourist, and find new things to do within a 50 mile radius. Swap houses with an out of state friend.
  3. I hope you’re starting to see that we all live in a box sometimes. Use this creative, out of the box thinking to come up with one NEW experience to have this week. Yep just one! Focus on that and more will flow naturally.

Pro Tip 🏆 Consider committing to One NEW Experience every week! Get excited about creating them. Journal about them if you want!
